I was very pleased with this torch. On its brightest setting it seems very powerful indeed. I haven't tested it to see how far away it can illuminate an object, but it's much brighter than any torch I've ever had before. I keep it clipped to the inside of the c**kpit bulkhead so it is available for "steamer scaring", spotting buoys or, heaven forbid, a man overboard.
