Jabsco Twist n Lock Toilet - Compact Bowl £104.95
Jabsco's Twist 'n' Lock Manual Marine Toilet has undoubtedly been one of our best selling products over the past 5 years and incredibly popular with leisure sailors and commercial boaters alike. Bearing in mind that Jabsco are the worlds biggest manufacturer of small craft marine toilet systems, and with that comes a wealth of experience, you can be assured of quality. The most notable feature of this manual toilet is its Twist n Lock function - an action handle which seals down the toilet seat and protects against syphonic flooding and waste backflow. Its simple and intuitive, one easy turn of the handle and the lock is applied. Turning the handle back to the natural operating position the lock re-opens.

I needed to replace a toilet made by TMC, which must be 20 years old and spares were hard to find.
The Jabsco compact, is higher quality and the twist n lock seals the exit pipe well, so I don't need to close the seac**k while sailing. Fitting was easy.

I bought this product and fitted it in my sailboat in April. I stayed on the boat until the end of June. I returned to the boat on the 24th August and yesterday the bowl started backfilling. I bought a new joker and fitted today. No more backfilling.
Whilst I am on the boat it is berthed in a marina and no solids go into the toilet, only liquids. Why should the joker valve fail so quickly? Is it inferior quality?
Apart from this issue I am delighted with the product.

I bought this as a complete spares kit for the two already on my boat. Though I don't need the bowl the other parts are all required and would cost considerably more if bought separately. Good points are that these toilets are reliable, but the main drawback is when you have a holding tank above toilet level waste will flow back into the bowl. The joker valve is never likely to be an effective seal and flowback prevention depends on the twist and lock feature holding the flap valve shut. In my experience this in not fully effective as scale builds up, also this feature can slightly distort the rubber flap and break the seal. These toilets need regular dismantling and cleaning to prevent flow back and I have fitted a spring loaded non return valve into the output hoses on mine.
